Fans and critics of the new generation modification of Nigerian music have continue to criticize some Naija entertainers who participated in the country’s grand finale of her centenary celebrations. Top on the list is pop icon Innocent Idibia better known as 2face who have in the past shown his disdain for Nigerian politicians and their corrupt ways. It was however surprising to many when the mega star headlined the centenary celebrations. Other acts who were also reproved include Wizkid, Omawumi and screen star Funke Akindele who hosted the event alongside Ik Osakioduwa.
Nigerians nationwide had condemned the lavish celebrations especially because it came a day after scores of secondary school children where burnt to death in their dormitory by the terrorist group, Boko Haram. Other observers say the inclusion of Abacha and some other corrupt politicians on the honorees’ list should have been a poser for the artistes rejection.
It would be recalled that Nobel Laureate ProfessOr Wole Soyinka ignored the ceremony even though he was listed among the awardees saying “sharing centenary award with Abacha Is an insult on my personality”. Also, the family of late music icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti also rejected the award.
